Meiji Era
Meiji Era

For a historical fiction novel, concerning the Meiji Era?
I'm writing my very first historical fiction and so far I'm getting a lot of research done, but there's one thing I just can't seem to find:
Can anyone think of a town in mainland Japan, such as a farm village, that was a little "behind the times" during the Meiji Era? Which areas held onto old Japanese traditions the longest?
You mean by Meiji Period right? You can choose between Tokyo, Kyoto, Satsuma, Chōshū, Tosa, and Hizen. These are the Japanese provinces and cities that held the longest.

The popularity of the game of baseball has crossed continents to the East Asian island of Japan. The exact date can not be located in a while actually began as a sport in Japan, it was estimated that got into the mentality of the Japanese was during the Meiji era, which is said to occur during the timeline from 1867 to 1912. This time period served as the modernization of Japan. The people adapted many western concepts from clothing, lifestyle and even sports. The Yakkyu game was called by the Japanese which means "field ball."
Baseball as a sport easy to do that in the hearts of the Japanese because there is no psychological similarity of the ball game to sports namely native Japan, sumo and martial arts. If you look closely at the baseball is a basic in a battle between pitcher and batter that is very similar to how the sport of sumo wrestling and martial arts focus on these aspects. Baseball takes time, speed and precision, so does the native Japanese Sport.
As the country became a modern Japan, as the popularity of baseball. Began in schools and made his way to becoming the leagues in the country. However, the trip was not so easy. As we know, Japan is considered one of the countries more closely linked in terms of culture and religion. Many criticized the sport's first century of the twentieth century saying that leads to mental pressure and other aspects impacts on the human body.
Matsuto Shoriki, an owner of a famous newspaper in Japan was in favor of sport and was more influential than the other critics. He sponsored a game that brought famous players like Babe Ruth and Jimmy Fox to play against Japan Association League. The Americans won that inspired fans. This event led to the formation of the first Japanese professional baseball team known as the baseball club of the Great Tokyo in December 1934. Shoriki was named as the father of Japanese baseball.
It was in 1936 that formed the first baseball league in Japan, the Japan Pro-Baseball League (PBL).
When war broke out in Japan, the country suffered great bodily harm, however, people use baseball to boost morale when they resumed in the 1950s. The game became even more popular in this decade, with the aid of television. It opened the door to a more diverse audience in the country.
Today, as we see the cable channels of sports, baseball is still considered one of the favorite pastimes of the Japanese. Some players Japanese, even a part of U.S. teams.
