Over the years I had the pleasure to meet and know many fans in miniature. What is fascinating to see familiar objects in a small way, is it realistic?

Much more than a toy for a child, building doll houses, and ultimately decorating and furnishing a topic of their choice, has become an adult hobby. The only way to improve on that, is having a daughter or granddaughter, who can share that interest and passion.

Personally, my interest is in antique miniatures and miniature dolls, rather than in modern works. The strange thing is the fact that old pieces rarely created with a true eye level, and the scale is of utmost importance to me when viewing modern miniatures.

The craftsmanship involved in the creation of small porcelain dolls with articulated limbs, eyes often hand-blown glass insert, real mohair wigs is amazing. Add to that the primitive conditions within the factories that many of these dolls were created in, adds to my amazement. Many of these small dolls have lasted over 100 years, have been manipulated and played with, loved and often abandoned, only to turn years later in an attic somewhere.

The furnishing of this same age, often handmade, often primitive, and many did not survive the test of time as well as the comics did. To search, hold and enjoy these works today is a delight.

Furniture dollhouse manufactured at this time, is often done in Germany as the dolls. I had a good friend of origin German libraries bring their children to me to help your sale. She is over 90 years of age, a nice lady who still teaches piano, runs his own house, and dresses her dolls. She had a story to tell about every piece of furniture, and recalls the hours spent with her sister in the creation of the tiny small bed, and doll clothes lampshades. I like to think there are similar stories about every antique piece that comes my way.

Also is important for me is to be miniatures of the material in real life.
If a bed is that it represents one of wood, plastic can not tolerate. (Chrysenbon sorry) If bathroom accessories are pieces of porcelain which represents, then do not do wood! Realism is very important in my own collection.

Some enthusiasts enjoy making all their own furniture and accessories, even their own dolls. This demanding the boats can only be admired by those of us with less talent, but it certainly makes clear his fascination.

Some artisans make such exquisite pieces can command prices as much as their counterparts in size complete. There are miniature artists who paint on canvases of each small masterpiece is one of a kind painting. Other artists paint in small plates, even as buttons fabrics.

There are artists who make miniature miniature embroidery, knitting, making rugs and pottery, and wood workers.

One thing I found was once someone embraces this hobby is usually a life long obsession.
